CaddyBytes 🏆 2026 Cadillac Championship Doral Round 1 Recap: The Blue Monster made its long-awaited return as a PGA Tour venue, bringing tournament golf back to Trump National Doral after a ten-year absence. On a hot South Florida day with temperatures in the upper 80s and a steady breeze, the opening round delivered plenty of scoring chances, bold shot-making, and familiar Doral danger.
Jordan Spieth was one of the biggest early stories, using sharp short-game touch and confident ball-striking to make the turn in 31 before finishing with a seven-under 65 — his best round of the year. Rickie Fowler also brought energy to the leaderboard, starting fast and producing one of the day’s best recovery shots with a low, hooking approach that found the green. Cameron Young continued to roll the putter beautifully, while Sahith Theegala worked his way to a three-under 69.
The back nine brought more movement as Hideki Matsuyama, Nick Taylor, Nico Echavarria, Si Woo Kim, and Chris Gotterup all flashed moments around Doral’s demanding greens and water-guarded targets. Taylor poured in a long birdie putt, Echavarria closed with late birdies at 15 and 16, and the field showed that scoring was available for players who stayed disciplined. With 47 players at even par or better, Round 1 set up a crowded leaderboard and a strong opening chapter for the Cadillac Championship’s return to the Blue Monster.
